The REFLECTION Yogi Meditation Candle is fragranced with Mandarin, Lime & Basil.
As the name suggests, this lovely light scent is mouth-wateringly fruity with a hint of herbs. This candle is helpful during times of self-reflection or self-study when one is trying to find their inner truth.
Inspired by the Niyamas, the second of Patanjali’s 8 Limbs of Yoga (from the Yoga Sutras (II.32), which is basically the Yogi’s ethical Guidebook). The Niyamas are a set of 5 “observances” that yogis must show in respect of themselves.
This candle is inspired by the third niyama – SWADHYAYA. Swadhyaya is associated with self-study, a discipline of repetition, which is useful when you wish to deepen your (yoga) practice beyond the mat.
Regular repetition of mantras and affirmations, when they permeate the mind, whilst drawing one’s awareness inwards (to realise the source of one’s internal nature), will help the mind to become quiet (enabling one to let go of mental chatter – chitta vritti).
There are several simple mantras (known as the Three Mahavakyas) to recite silently (with the breath) for this purpose:
So ham – I am that
Tat tvam asi – thou art that (know the highest self, that we are that)
Aham brahmasi – I am Brahman (let go of all outer trappings, of anything that is not the inner truth)
Of course you don’t have to use the above suggesting, choosing instead any mantra that helps you turn your attention inwards for times of self-reflection.
Or, simply, light the candle and enjoy the subtle aroma!
