The KINDNESS Yogi Meditation Candle is fragranced with Dark Amber & Ginger Lily.
This rich, deep & oriental aroma is reminiscent of days spent wandering amongst the Buddhist temples of Thailand. The fragrance envelops the beholder with a sense of calm and serenity despite the madding throng of tourists abound.
Inspired by the Yamas, the first of Patanjali’s 8 Limbs of Yoga (from the Yoga Sutras (II.30), which is basically the Yogi’s ethical Guidebook). The Yamas are a set of 5 “restraints” that yogis must show in respect of others.
This candle is inspired by the first Yama – Ahimsa – meaning “non-violence” or “not causing pain”. We like to call it KINDNESS.
One mantra which is relevant to this Yama comes from Patanjali’s Sutras (1.33). Known as the Brahmavihara or Loving Kindness Meditation, the Sanskrit version is as follows:
maitri karuna mudito-peksanam-sukha-duhkha punya-apunya-vishayanam bhavanatah chitta-prasadanam
There are many translations for this mantra, the most literal being:
By cultivating attitudes of friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous and composure toward the wicked, the mind-stuff (chitta) retains its undisturbed calmness.
However, if you are not familiar with chanting or Kirtan, you may prefer to dwell on this easy-to-remember version instead:
Loving Kindness Towards all Beings:
May all beings be happy. May all beings be healthy. May all beings be free from pain and suffering.
Use your meditation candle, along with the Mantra above, to meditate upon LOVE, COMPASSION, JOY & EQUANIMITY – acts of KINDNESS towards OTHERS, but more importantly towards THE SELF!
Or, simply, light the candle and enjoy the subtle aroma!
