So, as the new decade rolls in, I’m inviting you to roll out your mat for this all-new Beginners’ Yoga Classes for Menopause course, specifically designed for people facing the challenges of menopause.  It starts the first week back after the festive season  – whether that be in person (in my home town of Lymington, Hampshire, UK) OR, if you live further afield, you can join us on-line when the classes are rolled out shortly thereafter.

Since launching Heart Yoga, back in June of this year, people have been asking me, “where’s the yoga at?” And my reply has always been, “it’s coming soon!”

The truth is, the yoga has always been there, since first starting (back in 1992 – eek!).  Whenever I take time out to try something new – the gym, ceroc dancing, swimming, cycling, whatever – I always come back to yoga.

Yoga, for me, is like coming home. No matter how long between visits (and believe me, there’ve been some big gaps), yoga is like an old friend, always there to greet me with a hug and a smile.  No words needed.  Just a warm welcome and a chance to re-connect.

And it’s this “re-connection” I am inviting you to experience with me when we start the course.  The chance to re-connect with your own mind and body – and transform your life – through the wisdom of yoga.

“But what’s this got to do with my menopause symptoms?” I hear you ask.

Well, if you’ve read my previous blog posts already (links are at the bottom of the page), you will have noticed that I’ve been gently guiding you through the magic of yoga – that’s all aspects of yoga.

  • In the first blog, Master your Menopause, I talk you through the 3 ways Heart Yoga, specifically, tackles menopause. First, by changing your mind or, more importantly, your mindset, using yoga & meditation techniques. Second, through menopause-related nutritional advice. And, last but not least, through utilisation of aromatherapy self-care methods.  As a means to helping you do this I also offer a Daily Ritual checklist.
  • The second blog post, Change your Mind, goes a little deeper into the mindset aspect of yoga. How our practice enables us to quieten the mind (of all the unnecessary, and often detrimental, mental chatter) and focus on the breath.  I appreciate that this concept can feel quite alien to some, so, for additional support, I invite you to join Heart Yoga’s Facebook page and, for further, more confidential discussions on all things yoga and menopause, the private Facebook Group – Changelings is waiting to welcome you.
  • The third and fourth blog posts take you deeper into the physical realms of yoga, offering you simple yoga routines to practice at home (see Yoga for Menopause and request your Wake-Up or Bedtime Yoga Routines). I do appreciate, however, that working from diagrams is not everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you have never done yoga before! There are so many things that could go wrong and the chance of injuring yourself quite high.

“Let me show you…”

Hence, it’s time to move on and launch this new series of beginners’ classes to you in person or online so that, at the very least, you can hear the teacher’s instruction and watch it being demonstrated for yourself. At the same time, you’ll be learning how your new yoga practice can help alleviate menopause symptoms and improve your overall well-being.

At the end of the 6-week course, I invite you to join me at a dedicated 3-hour Yoga for Menopause workshop which brings together all the yoga teachings and introduces menopause-specific nutrition advice, plus aromatherapy techniques, for you to incorporate into your home self-care routine.

Let me leave you with one final thought, taken from one of the ancient yogic scriptures – The Bhagavad Gita (circa 200 CE):

โ€œYoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self…..โ€

I could (and most probably will, one day) write another blog post on the complete meaning of this one sentence alone.  However, for now, let me make this promise – should you join us on this course, it will be the start of your transformational journey and, hopefully, one you will never forget.
